Guide
How much does a cleaner, handyman or moving help cost in Switzerland?
Before you post a job, it helps to know what people usually pay. This guide collects indicative ranges for thirteen common household jobs, each with its source and date. It also explains what drives the price, and which minimum wages set a legal floor when a household employs someone directly.

How to read these prices
All ranges in this guide are indicative and not binding. They come from private sources – price portals, non-profit organisations and companies – and hold only for the date shown.
A company sets its own price, with or without VAT and travel depending on the offer. A private person you pay for household work receives a wage. In general, the household is then their employer, and minimum wages, social contributions and accident insurance come on top of the price or set a floor under it.
The legal floor: minimum wages in 2026
For household work, the federal standard employment contract (NAV Hauswirtschaft) sets a 2026 minimum wage of CHF 20.35 gross per hour (unskilled, excluding holiday pay). It applies from an average of 5 hours per week with the same employer, and not in the canton of Geneva. It does not cover people who mainly look after children, such as babysitters and day parents.
These rates exclude holiday and public-holiday supplements: with four weeks' holiday and one public holiday, CHF 20.35 becomes CHF 22.15 an hour.
Some cantons have their own minimum wage (2026, gross per hour): Geneva CHF 24.59, Basel-Stadt CHF 22.20, Jura CHF 21.40, Neuchâtel CHF 21.35, Ticino CHF 20.00–20.50. Check the rules for your canton and municipality. Zurich and Winterthur have adopted city minimum wages, but neither is in force yet.
| Rule | Minimum 2026, gross per hour |
|---|---|
| NAV Hauswirtschaft, unskilled | CHF 20.35 |
| NAV, unskilled with 4 years' experience, or 2-year vocational training (EBA) | CHF 22.30 |
| NAV, 3-year vocational training (EFZ) | CHF 24.55 |
| Geneva (cantonal minimum and domestic-work contract) | CHF 24.59–26.78 |
| Basel-Stadt | CHF 22.20 |
| Jura | CHF 21.40 |
| Neuchâtel | CHF 21.35 |
| Ticino | CHF 20.00–20.50 |

Cleaning and end-of-tenancy cleaning
Private household cleaners are paid about CHF 29–35 gross an hour, with an average of CHF 32.90 (quitt. data published by myky, March 2026). Cleaning platforms that employ the cleaner themselves charge more: Helpling starts at CHF 42.90 an hour including VAT, with a minimum of 2.5 hours.
End-of-tenancy cleaning with a handover guarantee (Abnahmegarantie) is offered by cleaning companies. The price portal renovero (September 2026) gives CHF 400–700 for 1.5 rooms, CHF 600–900 for 2.5 rooms and CHF 800–1'100 for 3.5 rooms. The company abnahmegarantie.ch lists CHF 549 to CHF 1'149 for 1 to 5.5 rooms (VAT included, 2023 data). Ofri cites CHF 600–785 for 3 rooms.
Moving help and flat clearance
The Swiss price portal Ofri (June 2024) gives company prices of CHF 700–1'500 for a 3 to 3.5-room move, with about 3 helpers for 5 hours. For 4 to 4.5 rooms, it gives CHF 1'100–2'400, with about 4 helpers for 6 hours.
Clearing a flat costs from CHF 800–2'200 for 1 to 1.5 rooms to CHF 2'500–6'000 for 4 to 5 rooms, with labour at about CHF 90–100 an hour (Ofri, June 2025). Our moving guide has the details.
Handyman, furniture assembly and painting
For small repairs there is no reliable hourly figure for handymen. For comparison, renovero (September 2026) lists CHF 80–130 an hour for carpenters, CHF 90–140 for electricians and CHF 70–120 for painters, plus travel costs. Electrical installations generally require a licensed installer.
Furniture assembly costs CHF 165–400 per job, with an average of CHF 260, and a wardrobe CHF 160–310 flat (Ofri, January 2023). IKEA Switzerland charges from CHF 100 per item for assembling a sofa, double bed or PAX wardrobe, plus a CHF 99.95 travel fee if the service is not booked with delivery.
Interior painting costs CHF 18–28 per m² for walls and CHF 20–32 per m² for ceilings, with two coats and materials included (baunex, April 2026).
Garden work and pet sitting
Private garden helpers earn about CHF 30–40 gross an hour; garden companies charge CHF 80–120 an hour (myky, April 2026) or CHF 60–100 (renovero). A neighbour you pay for garden work counts as household work for AHV/AVS, the Swiss old-age and survivors' insurance.
For pets, Petme (2026) gives CHF 22–38 for a dog walk, CHF 25–42 for a home visit, CHF 55–90 a night for boarding and CHF 35–60 a day for day care.
Babysitting, tutoring and help for older people
For up to two children, the Swiss Red Cross recommends CHF 8–10 an hour for babysitters aged 13–15 and CHF 11–18 for those aged 16–25 (via swissmom, January 2025). Add CHF 2 an hour for each extra child, and at least CHF 50 for a night. In Basel-Stadt, the cantonal minimum wage applies to babysitters over 25 or working more than 70 hours a year.
Tutoring on Tutor24 averages about CHF 36 a lesson, with offers from about CHF 20 (September 2026). The agency schweizer-nachhilfeportal.ch charges CHF 100–180 per 90-minute lesson at home, depending on the level – roughly CHF 67–120 an hour – with a six-month minimum package.
Non-profit household help and companionship for older people costs CHF 33–40 an hour at Pro Senectute Rorschach & Unterrheintal in 2026. Household help and companionship are fine; care – including basic care such as help with washing, dressing or getting up – usually requires professional training and a cantonal authorisation.
Professional computer help for seniors costs CHF 139 an hour plus CHF 20 travel at Pro Senectute Aargau, or CHF 120 an hour at Pro Senectute beider Basel (September 2026).
What drives the price
When you compare offers, check what each one includes:
- Size and access: rooms, floors, volume or square metres, stairs or a lift, parking.
- Timing: evenings, weekends, public holidays or short notice.
- Materials and equipment: who brings the cleaning products, tools or paint.
- Travel: some providers charge a flat fee or a rate per km.
- Company or private person: with a private helper, your obligations as an employer may come on top.
