Chur at a glance

Chur is the capital of the canton of Grisons (Graubünden) and one of the oldest towns in Switzerland. It lies in the Rhine valley, where the routes to several Alpine passes and to resorts such as Arosa and Lenzerheide begin. The canton is trilingual – German, Romansh and Italian – but Chur itself is German-speaking; its Romansh name is Cuira. The town has grown in recent years through mergers with Maladers (2020), Haldenstein (2021) and Tschiertschen-Praden (2025), which added villages and mountain hamlets to its Old Town and residential quarters. Typical small jobs are cleaning, moving help, furniture assembly, garden work and errands for older residents. Customary moving dates in Grisons vary by municipality, so check your lease.
