Yverdon-les-Bains at a glance

Yverdon-les-Bains sits at the south-western end of Lake Neuchâtel and is the second-largest town in the canton of Vaud. It is French-speaking and known for the thermal baths that give it its name, for its 13th-century castle, where the educator Pestalozzi ran his institute, and for the HEIG-VD school of engineering and management. The town combines an old centre with residential quarters such as Les Cygnes, Pierre-de-Savoie and Villette. Most people rent. As elsewhere in Vaud, moves and end-of-tenancy cleaning cluster around the customary dates of 1 April, 1 July and 1 October, when the flat must be returned clean and emptied by noon. Gardening, furniture assembly and babysitting are other common requests.
