Locarno at a glance

Locarno lies at the northern end of Lake Maggiore, near the mouth of the Maggia valley, and is one of the sunniest towns in Switzerland. The language is Italian. Every August the Piazza Grande hosts the Locarno Film Festival, first held in 1946. With neighbouring Muralto, Minusio, Ascona and Losone, the town forms a lakeside area with many holiday homes and second homes, some owned by people from German-speaking Switzerland or abroad. Beyond regular cleaning, that creates demand for garden care, looking after a house between stays, cleaning before and after guests, and help with clearing out or moving. The town also includes Solduno, Ponte Brolla and land on the Magadino plain. Ticino has its own minimum wage.
